In Bob Gregson’s outstanding book on Preston’s railways, ‘The London and North Western Railways around Preston’, which was written with the 2012 Guild in mind, he focused on the station and the various companies which were amalgamated to form the L.N.W.R. The book was packed with hitherto unpublished material that contributed to its popularity. Indeed, it was one of those publications that you just couldn’t put down even if your tea was going cold. Informative as this work was, it did receive criticism as it was alleged to have contained more writing than pictures. In the light of this Bob has decided to provide his readers with a book which contains a more balanced style giving a larger emphasis to images and less text. After all, he insists that there was very little to add to what he wrote in the 2012 Guild edition. So here we are with ‘Preston, A Railway Miscellany’, a book which fulfils all of its promises with superb and fascinating photos many of which have never been published before.

This book is one of two which have been published to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of steam traction in 1968.
